Cynthia Bolingo will not be able to compete in this weekend’s Diamond League athletics final in Eugene (Oregon), in the United States after having been denied a visa.
The winner of the Van Damme Memorial 400m last Friday announced on her Instagram account that she would not be able to travel to the United States over visa issues. Her final attempt on Friday morning was also unsuccessful.
“To be honest, I’m heartbroken. I can’t explain how I feel at the moment but I have to keep believing in my own journey because as I’ve always said, everything happens for a reason (but this one is bloody hard to accept). It’s so frustrating because this situation is totally out of my control,” wrote Cynthia Bolingo, 5th in the 400m at the last World Championships in Budapest.
She was to be, along with Ben Broeders (pole vault) and Thomas Carmoy (height), the third representative of Belgian athletics in this final of the 2023 edition of the Diamond League.
