A passenger has filed a complaint about the fact that a steak use is being given to diners in a pizza restaurant in Belgium's largest airport, located in the area after the security controls.

Federal aviation ombudsman Philippe Touwaide reported on Tuesday that a passenger filed a complaint because of "the use of steak knives in the AMO restaurant, located in the neutral zone of the airport in Brussels."

The person said having such knives in that place was "astonishing".

It is already the second time Touwaide has had to intervene for this reason, as the issue has already been reported before. "The use of such knives – which a malicious person could take on board a plane – poses a potential risk to air traffic safety," the ombudsman said.

The ombudsman informed the minister in charge, Mobility Minister Georges Gilkinet. However, Brussels Airport contested the fact that the knife was a steak knife, adding that it was an unsharp, ordinary knife.

"These knives do not meet the legislation’s description of objects with a sharp point or edge capable of inflicting serious injury," the airport's communication department said. "Their use is therefore in compliance with the legislation."
