“We checked these people based on a combination of factors establishing that they could be there for looting or vandalism,” a police spokesman said.
Some of those arrested were unable or unwilling to show identification documents. Several dangerous objects, such as firecrackers or stones, were found on some individuals. No incidents were reported.
On 7 June, some 10,000 people demonstrated in Brussels in support of the Black Lives Matter movement. The demonstration gave way to riots and looting, and over 200 people were arrested. The riots were followed by a call for more violence.
