The day after car-free Sunday, Greenpeace Brussels launched a new campaign to organise a car-free Sunday once a month from April to September from 2021.

Car-free Sunday occurs once a year in Brussels, with cars not allowed on the roads for the biggest part of the day.

With the campaign, named “La rue est à vous!” (“The street is yours!”), Greenpeace’s goal is to ask the Brussels-Capital Region to extend the existing scheme to six car-free Sundays a year.

A petition has been launched to that effect and has already gathered over 3,000 signatures, according to Greenpeace Brussels.

The campaign "is intended to be constructive towards the Brussels-Capital Region and inclusive of all citizens, whatever their usual mode of transport or specific needs,” according to the association.

"Thanks to this campaign and the opportunities offered by the car-free day, we want to imagine the city of tomorrow together,” Greenpeace Brussels concluded.
