With the current spell of cold weather continuing this weekend, some readers may wish to fully immerse themselves in the winter season. On that note, here are the best images from this year's Winter Wonders market.

Anyone passing through the Belgian capital lately will have seen the Christmas market in the city centre, with the 'Winter Wonders' market making a full comeback this year after having to contend with Covid-19 restrictions for the last two editions.

The excitement grew after the market was crowned the best Christmas market in the world by Big 7 Travel website. Before even reaching the city centre, the festive garlands will get visitors in the Christmas mood.

Much of the market is concentrated in Saint Catherine, where vendors sell food and drinks – with mulled wine in abundance. Those with children can enjoy rides on the merry-go-round, among other amusements.

Visitors can pass by the Grand Place, which has also been decorated for the occasion with a 20-metre high Christmas tree in front of the Town Hall.
