A driver who ran over a 21-year-old man who died of his injuries on the spot confessed to the hit-and-run as he was being questioned by police, according to reports on Tuesday.

On Sunday, the 24-year-old man ran into a pedestrian of Romanian origin in Brussels’ Boulevard du Jardin Botanique, near Place Rogier.

The driver fled the scene, where the victim died on the spot. Authorities found the vehicle on Monday, which they said had been abandoned near Gare du Nord.

The 24-year-old man turned himself in to police on Monday, and was put under custody for questioning, during which he confessed to hitting the pedestrian, according to Bruzz.

An examining magistrate will question the driver during the course of Tuesday, and an arrest warrant could be issued against the driver for unintentional manslaughter, endangering pedestrians and fleeing the scene.
