The two people (aged 20 and 23) who were picked up by the police after the shooting on Rue de l'Ecole in the Brussels municipality of Molenbeek-Saint-Jean have been placed under arrest, the Brussels Public Prosecutor's Office announced.

In the afternoon on Saturday 10 August, just before 16:00, a shooting took place on Rue de l'Ecole in Molenbeek. At the scene, police found a 20-year-old man who was injured and also had weapons on him. He was taken to the hospital for treatment and subsequently deprived of his liberty.

Now, he has been placed under arrest by the investigating judge and charged with illegal possession of weapons, possession of narcotics in an organisation, apparently intended for sale, membership in a criminal organisation, and money laundering.

That Saturday afternoon, police also arrested another suspect, a 23-year-old. He was also placed under arrest and charged with attempted murder, illegal carrying of a weapon, illegal possession of a weapon, possession of narcotics in an organisation clearly intended for sale, membership in a criminal organisation, and money laundering.

As of 19 August, Brussels has been shocked by 23 shootings since the beginning of the summer. Since the beginning of the year, there have been 60 shootings. Many of the shootings in recent weeks and months have been linked to drug trafficking.
