The shooting at a police station in Anderlecht is a new warning for Brussels, Minister-President Boris Dilliès said, vowing that organised crime will not be allowed to take over the city.
Dilliès said the incident underlined the need for a stronger response to crime in the Belgian capital.
He noted that Brussels’ drugs commissioner will take up the post at the end of September and will be tasked with drawing up an overall strategy.
The minister-president also pointed to tighter rules on electric scooters and to a regional investment of €68 million this year in security and prevention.
Dilliès further called for close attention to the proposals put forward by Brussels public prosecutor Julien Moinil, saying he fully supports them.
