The Brussels police arrested two suspects who threatened a police officer with a knife in the area of the Brussels North train station, announced the Brussels Public Prosecutor's Office on Tuesday.

The plain-clothes detective was shadowing the two suspects when they recognised him as a police officer. When he wanted to carry out an identity check, one of the two took out a knife. The officer was able to flee and was not injured.

"The two were immediately arrested by colleagues of the threatened officer," reports the Brussels Public Prosecutor's Office in a press release.

The suspect who drew the knife is underage and being questioned by the police. He will appear before the public prosecutor later on Tuesday, and is suspected of making threats through gestures, among other things. The investigation is ongoing.

Two weeks ago, a police officer from the Brussels-North zone was stabbed to death in the municipality of Schaerbeek while another one was admitted to hospital.
