The swimming pools of Woluwe-Saint-Lambert and Saint-Josse-ten-Noode are closing their doors until 2 January to reduce their rising energy bills. The Uccle swimming pool is also closing temporarily, but this is due to maintenance work.

The Poseidon swimming pool in Woluwe-Saint-Lambert will be closed from 24 December to 2 January. "We have to take measures to reduce the energy bill," Grégory Matgen, city councillor for energy, told Belga News Agency.

"We raised our prices in September when we saw the energy crisis coming and the sports infrastructure was not financially supported," Graziella Baradel, director Poseidon, explained to La Dernière Heure.

Saint-Josse's municipal swimming pool also has no choice but to close its doors due to rising energy bills. However, it always schedules an annual closure period at the end of the year "to let the staff breathe," said mayor Emir Kir.

In the municipality of Uccle, the Longchamp swimming pool is closed for a bit longer, until 8 January. This is because the authorities will have maintenance work carried out during that period.

The swimming pools in Watermael-Boitsfort, Etterbeek, Woluwe-Saint-Pierre, the City of Brussels, Neder-Over-Heembeek and Laeken only close during the holidays.
