The victim who was left behind by a driver who caused a severe car crash at the weekend is a 17-year-old woman whose condition has stabilised but who remains in the hospital, authorities said on Monday.

The 17-year-old was rushed to the hospital on Saturday with critical injuries after a driver she was riding with lost control of the vehicle while driving at a high speed, causing the car to roll over several times before landing on its roof.

Her condition has since stabilised but authorities are still looking for the driver of the car, according to Bruzz.

The driver was reportedly speeding while he attempted to overtake another vehicle on roads made slippery by consistent rainfall on the day of the crash.

Police are still trying to identify the driver of the vehicle, who fled from the scene of the crash by foot, leaving the 17-year-old behind, according to reports.

The incident took place on Saturday at a busy junction in the municipality of Schaerbeek, where a series of previous accidents have prompted residents to demand action from municipal authorities.
