A wildfire burning in France’s Gironde department has spread to within 15 kilometres of central Bordeaux, but the city is not facing evacuation, the mayor said on Sunday afternoon.
The fire is approaching one of the largest cities in south-west France, raising concern among residents and local authorities.
Despite its proximity, Bordeaux mayor said an evacuation is “not under consideration” at this stage.
No further details were immediately given about the fire’s size, its direction of travel, or any additional safety measures in place.
