Unemployment in the eurozone remained steady at 6.2% in June, maintaining the same level as in April and May, according to Eurostat’s announcement on Thursday.

This 6.2% figure is the lowest recorded since Eurostat began tracking this data series in April 1998. Compared to June 2024, the unemployment rate in the 20 countries using the single currency decreased by 0.2%.

Across the entire European Union, the unemployment rate also remained stable in June compared to May, holding at a historic low of 5.9%. Eurostat estimates that 12.967 million people were unemployed in the EU in June, with 10.7 million of them in the eurozone.

In Belgium, the unemployment rate remained stable at 6.5%, according to Eurostat’s harmonised data. This rate is higher than in Germany (3.7%), the Netherlands (3.8%), and Italy (6.3%), but lower than in France (7%).

Within the EU, the lowest unemployment rates were found in Malta (2.5%), the Czech Republic (3%), and Poland (3.5%). The highest were recorded in Spain (10.4%), Finland (9.3%), and Sweden (8.7%).

The youth unemployment rate (for those under 25) was 14.7% in the EU, stable compared to May, and 14.1% in the eurozone.
