Belgian football player Kevin De Bruyne (31), who plays as a midfielder for Manchester City, was nominated for the Premier League 'Player of the Season' trophy on Thursday.

De Bruyne – who already won the award twice, in 2020 and 2022 – is up against his Norwegian teammate Erling Haaland, Arsenal players Martin Ødegaard and Bukayo Saka, Harry Kane (Tottenham), Marcus Rashford (Manchester United) and Kieran Trippier (Newcastle).

In 30 games this Premier League season, De Bruyne delivered 18 assists and scored seven times. At Manchester City, which is heading for the English title, he and Haaland form a lethal duo. In his first season in the English league, Haaland (22) immediately broke the goalscoring record with 36 goals in 33 matches (plus seven assists).

To designate the winner, the votes of fans (who are allowed to cast their vote until Monday 22 May) will be added to those of a panel of experts – the winner will be announced on Saturday 27 May.

Besides De Bruyne, Eden Hazard (in 2015, at Chelsea) and Vincent Kompany (in 2012, at Manchester City) are also on the best 'Player of the Season' honours list.

If De Bruyne wins the award for the third time, he will become the sole record holder. Now, he shares the record with Frenchman Thierry Henry (2004, 2006), Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo (2007, 2008) and Serbian Nemanja Vidic (2009, 2010).
