'Not too late for Ukraine to win the war,' says Nato chief

NATO's Secretary-General, Jens Stoltenberg, and the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky together urged on Monday for more international assistance to help Ukraine win its war against Russia.

Jens Stoltenberg, during a visit to Kyiv, acknowledged that “significant delays in support have serious consequences on the battlefield,” referring to notable delays in US and European military aid.

“However, it’s not too late for Ukraine to win,” the NATO chief said, assuring that “more aid is on the way” and further assistance announcements are expected “soon”.

Stoltenberg consequently called for NATO allies to establish a “significant, multi-year financial commitment…demonstrating our support to Ukraine isn’t short-term.”

“Moscow must understand it can’t win,” Stoltenberg stressed.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky urged the West to speed up arms deliveries to “thwart” the major new offensive Moscow is reportedly preparing, according to Kyiv.

“Together, we must thwart the Russian offensive,” stated Zelensky standing next to Jens Stoltenberg, noting that Moscow is “attempting to capitalise” on the delays in Western aid.

“Artillery, munitions of 155mm calibre, long-range weapons and air-defence, primarily Patriot systems – this is what our partners have and what should now work here in Ukraine to destroy Russia’s terrorist ambitions,” Zelensky said.

In recent days, Moscow has claimed to have captured several villages. On Monday, the Russian army announced the capture of Semenivka, and the previous day it had claimed Novobakhmoutivka.
