A man was detained in Paris on Saturday morning after stabbing several individuals at Gare de Lyon train station, according to local police.

The 32-year-old suspect carried out a knife attack at the station at around 08:00 on Saturday morning, injuring three individuals. Local police reported one individual suffering serious but non-life threatening injuries, while two others sustained minor injuries from the attack.

In addition, "the suspect did not cry out [any religious slogans] during his attack," the police stated. "He showed the police an Italian driving licence."

The suspect has been identified as a Malian national with an Italian residence permit. Police officer Laurent Nunez noted that the suspect "clearly suffers from psychiatric problems."

The area in the station between halls one and three was temporarily closed, rail operator SNCF said on social media. There will be heightened security and possible disruptions to rail services as the investigation continues.
