Two of Brussels’ most renowned dining institutions, both listed in the Michelin Guide, have announced that they will soon leave the city, marking the end of a culinary era in the northwest of the capital.

In Ganshoren, San Daniele, a family-run establishment led by Chef Franco Spinelli, is set to leave its current location on Avenue Charles-Quint after 40 years.

Known for its Italian-inspired cuisine and long-standing reputation among Brussels food lovers, the restaurant will move to new premises in Dilbeek, Flanders, where it promises to preserve the spirit of San Daniele in a "more spacious and modern" setting.

In an interview with BX1, Spinelli cited concerns about parking as one of the reasons why he and his team decided to make the move to Flanders.

"It took a long time for us to decide, but Brussels was starting pose problems for us, especially regarding parking. We had huge parking problems - customers couldn't find a space easily. We were starting to lose customers, especially at lunchtime, so we had to react."

Wine in the City

Just a few kilometers away in Jette, the story is different for Wine in the City (place Reine Astrid 34). After 20 years, chef Eddy Munster and his wife Isabelle Tillemans have decided to close their gourmet restaurant for good.

The couple announced that they will be relocating to Sancerre, France, putting an end to two decades of culinary creativity that saw their project evolve from a simple wine cellar into a celebrated gastronomic destination. There, they will join forces with their son, Arnaud Münster, a former contestant on Top Chef season 15.

For those who want to experience these restaurants before the changes take effect, now is the time. San Daniele will host its final night in Brussels on 1 November before opening its new restaurant in Dilbeek on 4 November, while Wine in the City will close its doors for good at the end of December. Their wine store will remain open until January 2026.
