A fire broke out on Monday morning in an empty office building on Boulevard du Souverain in Brussels, causing disruptions in the surrounding area.

The fire on the façade of the office building was reported at around 9 a.m. The fire brigade responded to the scene with three fire engines and two ladder trucks.

Once on site, it appeared that the insulation of the office building was on fire. The fire brigade was forced to dismantle part of the façade in order to combat the fire.

"During the firefighting operations, two firefighters were taken to hospital," said Fire Brigade spokesman Walter Derieuw. "One had become unwell, the second had been hit by debris. The condition of both is satisfactory and certainly not alarming."

The fire was completely extinguished around 12:15 p.m. The exact cause of the fire is still unclear.

According to the Brussels transport operator, STIB-MIVB, traffic in the area is experiencing considerable disruption due to the fire, and tram line 8 is interrupted between the Wiener and Hermann-Debroux stops.
