A teenager who was preparing a terrorist attack on the Flemish Parliament in Brussels and the Deelen military air base north of Arnhem has been convicted by a court in Leeuwarden, the Netherlands.
The Dutch boy was 12 to 13 years old at the time he planned the attack, engaging with right-wing extremist ideologies.
In 2023, the boy established a Telegram group in which he called on people to commit terrorist attacks.
In one instance, he also offered someone money to carry out the attack in Brussels, but the person in question subsequently stopped responding to the boy's messages.
The boy had a history of advocating for a race war and a white ethnostate, according to the court ruling. Through Telegram, he was able to communicate with like-minded people, while not daring to share his ideas in the immediate circles.
The reasons for targeting the Flemish Parliament and the Gelderland air base remained unknown to the general public.
The Leeuwarden court has sentenced the boy to three months of suspended juvenile detention with a two-year probationary period, reports NOS. He must also undergo treatment at the National Support Centre for Extremism. He also will not get his phone back.
