A water tank at the vegetable processing company Ardo in Ardooie in West Flanders has ruptured, releasing approximately 60 million litres of water.
The leak was discovered on Thursday afternoon at the company’s premises on Wezestraat.
Local authorities stated that the tank cannot be repaired, leading to a controlled drainage of the water.
A limited evacuation is underway in the surrounding area as a precautionary measure.
No injuries have been reported, and the discharged water has not been contaminated. The company remains operational despite the incident.
Drivers have been advised to avoid the area for the time being. The cause of the rupture is still under investigation.
