On 1 July, kilometre charge rates for trucks will be raised in the Brussels-Capital Region and Flanders because of an index adjustment, announced the public organisation for the Kilometer Charge, Viapass.

The increase is due to indexation; no paying toll roads will be added on 1 July, Viapass stressed in a press release. In Wallonia, the toll tariffs were already indexed on 1 January.

The tariffs are applicable to all Belgian and foreign trucks with a maximum authorised mass (MTM) of more than 3.5 tonnes and semi-trailer vehicles of category N1 with bodywork code BC.

The software of OBUs (On-Board Units) by the six service providers accredited for kilometre charges in Belgium – Axxès, Eurotoll, Satellic, Telepass, Toll4Europe and TotalEnergies Marketing Services – will automatically be updated with the new tariffs in force from 1 July.

The charge per kilometre on toll roads depends on three factors: the region where the road is located, the MTM and the Euro emission standard of the vehicle.

The toll applies to three MTM categories (from 3.5 tonnes to 12 tonnes, from 12 to 32 tonnes and over 32 tonnes) and seven Euro standards (from the most polluting Euro 0 standard to the most environmentally friendly Euro 6 standard).

In practice, the indexation will mean an increase of €0.313 to €0.339 per kilometre for the oldest and least environmentally friendly lorries of over 32 tonnes with Euronorm 0, 1 or 2 in Brussels' inner-city area, reports Belga News Agency.

For the most recent and most environmentally friendly lorries of over 32 tonnes with Euro standard 6, there is an increase from €0.218 to €0.236 per kilometre. The higher the Euro standard of the vehicle and the lower its MTM, the more advantageous the tariff per driven kilometre.
