A man was injured in a shooting in the Brussels municipality of Saint-Gilles on Saturday evening, but his life is not in danger, mayor Jean Spinette said.
The shooting happened at the junction of Rue Gustave Defnet and Chaussée de Forest.
Spinette, who went to the scene, said the incident was likely linked to a shoot-out between drug dealers.
An investigation is under way to establish the exact circumstances of the shooting.
At around 23:00, a security perimeter was still in place and police officers remained at the scene.
The area around the so-called Place des Deux Bancs in Saint-Gilles is known as a location where drugs are sold.
Residents and the mayor have repeatedly raised concerns about drug trafficking in the area and the nuisance associated with it.
