Supermarket chain Lidl is gradually rolling out its 'Scan&Go' system in Belgium, allowing customers to scan and pay for their groceries using their own smartphone.
The 'Scan&Go' will first debut at the Lidl stores in Melle and Destelbergen, according to a statement by the company.
The traditional checkouts and self-checkout stations will remain available, and Lidl will deploy customer assistants during the first two weeks to ensure a smooth introduction of 'Scan&Go'.
"By integrating Scan&Go directly into our Lidl Plus app, the customer has everything in one central place: the digital loyalty card, the shopping list, all ongoing promotions, the scanning of items, and the total amount," says Lidl spokesperson Kim Geirnaert.
This service is not new within Lidl. Customers in Germany, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg are already familiar with the concept.
