A tree fell onto two homes overnight from Saturday to Sunday on Merols Street in Walhorn, in the municipality of Lontzen, causing damage but no injuries, while the road remains closed because two other storm-damaged trees are still at risk of falling.

Police in the Weser-Göhl zone said the incident happened in the province of Liège.

Firefighters removed the first tree, which had completely blocked the road.

The two houses suffered material damage but remain habitable.

Merols Street is closed to traffic until further notice.

Restrictions are also in place at the junctions of Merols Street with Merols and Johberg, where access is limited to local residents.

Firefighters were unable to deal with the two other weakened trees during the night because of the weather conditions.

The municipality of Lontzen is expected to have the trees inspected by the relevant services and to take any necessary action.

The restrictions will remain in place until the risks have been assessed and the safety of road users can be guaranteed.

The Weser-Göhl police zone has urged motorists to avoid the area and follow the road signs.
