Checks carried out this week on driving school vehicles, vans, trucks and other forms of regular transport found violations in 20% of the vehicles, Brussels Mobility said in a press release.

The operation was also an opportunity for Brussels Mobility to test its new mobile unit and control dispatching.

The operation took place simultaneously on Wednesday in Uccle, Woluwe-Saint-Lambert and Laeken, with 456 checks carried out on 261 vehicles and construction sites.

There were 54 irregularities, 14 official reports, one permit withdrawn for 15 days, one cargo seized, and one construction site suspended.

The new control dispatching system and mobile control unit tested during the operation are both equipped with screens where images from bodycams and drones are displayed. This should ensure a smooth exchange of information and coordination between the teams.

“These results show that such controls of the transport sector are necessary to improve road safety and avoid unfair competition,” said Elke Van den Brandt, Brussels Minister for Mobility.

“Professional drivers drive more kilometres than private drivers, so it is particularly important that they respect the rules in force," she added.

The checks were carried out by Brussels Mobility, in collaboration with the Federal Mobility Department, Regional Labour Inspectorate and the Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain.

The agency was responsible for checking that foodstuff was transported correctly.
