Traffic on Flemish motorways is particularly heavy this Friday, according to the Flemish Traffic Centre.

The combination of good weather and a long weekend is drawing many people to the coast.

Congestion began building in the morning, especially on routes heading west, said Peter Bruyninckx, spokesperson for the centre.

At the peak of traffic around 11:30, there were 180 kilometres of jams – a significant amount for a public holiday.
