Belgian writer and entertainer Noël Godin died on Sunday at the age of 80, his partner Sylvie Broodthaers confirmed to the Belga News Agency.
A resident of Brussels, though born in Liège, he became known for his pie-throwing stunts targeting numerous public figures, including Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft; the singer Patrick Bruel; the journalist Patrick Poivre d’Arvor; and Bernard-Henri Lévy, whom he targeted on seven occasions.
His first pie-throwing incident happened in 1969 and involved Marguerite Duras. However, his “best coup” remains Bill Gates, he told the media in the past.
One of his most recent victims was Michael O’Leary, the boss of Ryanair, whom he claimed to have pelted with a pie in September 2023 outside the European Commission in Brussels.
