A man who threatened to blow up his car on the E25 in Sprimont surrendered peacefully after negotiations with police on Saturday, local authorities said.
The man was arrested and taken away for questioning, according to Sprimont Mayor Luc Delvaux and the Liège public prosecutor’s office.
Prosecutor Gilles de Villers Grand Champs said the investigation concerns threats to carry out an attack. An explosives dog had earlier given a positive indication, but the prosecutor said the actual presence of explosives has not yet been confirmed.

At about 14:15, the municipality of Sprimont lifted its crisis phase in consultation with the prosecutor’s office and emergency services.
All people who had been stranded on the motorway because of the incident were evacuated, and the situation no longer poses a risk there, the mayor said.
The E25 was closed in both directions on Saturday afternoon as a result of the threat.
The carriageway towards Liège has since reopened, the municipality said on Facebook. The road towards Luxembourg remains closed until investigative work has been completed, and motorists have been asked to avoid the area.
