The Centre for Fine Arts in Brussels presented its 157th music season on Monday evening. In 2022-2023, more than 200 concerts will take place.
The classical world will be represented by numerous international orchestras. For example, the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, together with other Czech artists, will be in the spotlight in honour of the Czech Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The National Orchestra of Belgium, Bozar's house orchestra, will perform a Rachmaninov festival, to play various scores by the Russian composer. Furthermore, it offers one-hour concerts to present the classical repertoire to the uninitiated.
Claire Gibault, one of the founders of the first female conductor competition La Maestra, will conduct the Paris Mozart Orchestra alongside Anna Sulkowska-Migon, the first winner of the 2022 edition.

For the opera, Bozar draws on the past with the rarely performed ‘Theseus’ by Jean-Baptiste Lully and the virtuoso ‘Céphale et Procris’ by Élisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre. There are also contemporary creations such as ‘Einstein on the Beach’ by Philip Glass or ‘Lessons in Love and Violence’ by George Benjamin in the schedule.
In the world music section, ‘Viva!’ will feature a wild flamenco show by Manuel Linan. The jazz repertoire includes singers Lady Blackbird and Diane Reeves, but also the American pianist Brad Mehldau and the Tunisian Anouar Brahem.
For the 25th edition of Bozar Next Generation, young musicians will perform every Sunday at 11 am on the stage of the Henry Le Bœuf Hall.
"The stranglehold of the pandemic seems to be loosening and cultural life is getting back on track," notes music director Jérôme Giersé.
"At the same time, the tragedy in Ukraine affects us deeply. In the conflicts that have been tearing the world apart for decades, artists contribute to dialogue between communities and the restoration of peace."
