China will impose import tariffs of 21.9% to 42.7% on certain dairy products from the European Union starting Tuesday.

The move is a provisional decision resulting from European export subsidies, according to the Chinese Ministry of Commerce.

An investigation was launched by China in August 2024, focusing on products such as fresh and processed cheese.

Preliminary findings from the investigation indicated that EU subsidies have caused significant harm to China’s dairy industry.
