A 17-year-old girl was killed in Friday’s sword attack at Brinell school in Fagersta, central Sweden, police said on Saturday.

An 18-year-old man armed with a sword entered the school on Friday, killing one person and injuring three others before being arrested. He is now in custody.

At a press conference on Friday evening, the local police chief said officers found a body inside the school after the attacker had been subdued.

Police said the investigation was continuing at full speed, with numerous enquiries and house-seatches already carried out as officers work to establish exactly how the attack unfolded, as well as its motive.

Two boys aged 12 and 17 were seriously injured, according to the Västmanland region. One of them required emergency surgery.

A third person was also injured, although the extent of those injuries has not yet been disclosed.

Flowers and candles were laid near the school on Saturday morning, where Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and Social Democratic opposition leader Magdalena Andersson paid their respects.
