At around 8:40 a.m. today, a police inspector from the Brussels-Capital/Ixelles zone jumped into the canal to rescue a woman in distress.
The officer kept the victim afloat until emergency services arrived. The woman was taken to hospital, and her condition is not believed to be serious.
The officer was examined at the scene, and hospitalisation was not deemed necessary.
The circumstances of the incident remain under investigation.
Police officials expressed their gratitude to the officer, saying his actions demonstrated the force’s dedication to serving the public. "Hats off!" they added.
